Police arrested a 34-year-old man in Igualada on Friday morning following a dangerous pursuit in Santa Margarida de Montbui. The driver, operating a stolen van, rammed a Mossos d'Esquadra patrol car, causing it to overturn and injuring two officers.

Reckless Escape from Traffic Control

The incident began shortly after 00:30 on Friday when Mossos d'Esquadra officers conducted a traffic control at kilometre 63 of the C-37 road, near the entrance to Santa Margarida de Montbui in the Anoia region. A van attempted to evade the control and fled, prompting a police pursuit towards the town centre. On Valls road, adjacent to Santa Margarida street, the driver deliberately collided with one of the police vehicles. The impact caused the Mossos car to overturn in the middle of the road, and several parked vehicles also sustained damage. ElCaso.com reported these details.

Officers Injured, Driver Fled

Both officers inside the overturned patrol car sustained injuries. One officer suffered minor injuries, while the other sustained a less serious injury, including a fractured arm. Despite their injuries, both officers managed to exit the vehicle unaided. The driver of the stolen van exploited the accident to escape the scene. However, officers had already noted the vehicle's registration number. A subsequent check confirmed the van was stolen, according to police databases.

Extensive Search and Arrest in Igualada

Following the collision, the Mossos d'Esquadra, collaborating with the Local Police of Igualada, launched an extensive search operation throughout the night. Around 08:30, officers located the stolen van on Calle Italia in the Polígon les Comes industrial estate in Igualada, as reported by IgualadaNews. The 34-year-old driver, a local resident with a significant police record, was still inside the vehicle and was immediately arrested. He faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, causing injuries, assault on an authority agent, damages, and vehicle theft or unauthorised use. This incident highlights the risks police officers face during pursuits and the impact of stolen vehicle crime on public safety in the Anoia region.
