Barcelona’s Drogueria Rovira, an institution with over a century of history, has won recognition as the top home goods retailer in Spain. It secured the national edition of the prestigious Global Innovation Awards (GIA) for 2025-2026. The family-run store will now advance to the international stage, representing the country in the global finals held in Chicago.

The droguería announced on Wednesday that this marks a significant milestone for the emblematic shop located at Carrer de Madrazo, 127 in the Sant Gervasi-Galvany neighbourhood. Founded in 1910, the store has become a cornerstone of local commerce, renowned for its blend of traditional service and modern retail practices.
From Barcelona to the World Stage
The Global Innovation Awards are organised annually by the Chicago-based International Housewares Association (IHA). The programme honours the world’s most innovative home and housewares retailers. It evaluates them on criteria including retail excellence, product presentation, innovation, and overall shopping experience.
As the national winner, Drogueria Rovira will join a select group of retailers from over 30 countries to compete for the global title. The international ceremony will take place in Chicago during The Inspired Home Show’s gala event on 10 March 2026. “The national winners represent their countries in the international ceremony,” the store’s owners explained. “For Drogueria Rovira, this recognition has a very special meaning.”
A Legacy of Service and Innovation
Currently managed by the fourth generation of the founding family, Drogueria Rovira has successfully navigated more than a century of change by staying true to its core values. The owners credit their success to “a clear dedication to service, expert advice, and the preservation of specialised commerce.”
According to El Periódico, the shop combines tradition and innovation. It maintains a strong bond with its clientele through a carefully curated product selection and a shopping experience rooted in deep product knowledge and personalised customer care. This commitment has transformed it into an iconic establishment in Barcelona.
This latest accolade is not the store’s first time in the spotlight. It builds on a strong track record of local and regional recognition. In 2022, Drogueria Rovira received the National Commerce Award from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Best Local Commerce award from the Ajuntament de Barcelona. This latest GIA prize elevates its reputation to a national and international level. This follows a trend of Barcelona-based initiatives receiving global acclaim, such as the city’s recent $1 million Bloomberg Prize for its housing plan.
In their statement, the Rovira family dedicated the award to the generations that preceded them, their family, their team of professionals, and “very especially, to the lifelong customers who have made the continuity of this century-old project possible.” The win underscores the enduring value of specialised, service-oriented retail in an increasingly digital marketplace and highlights Barcelona’s vibrant and diverse commercial fabric.
