The victims, a mother and her young daughter — suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital by emergency services (SEM). One sustained burns to a foot, while the other was treated for smoke inhalation.

The blaze began at around 8:30 a.m. while several scooters were being charged inside the flat. The explosion ignited the living room and two bedrooms, leaving the home uninhabitable. The City Council has offered emergency accommodation to the occupants.

Neighbours reported hearing a “very loud explosion, like a bomb,” with thick smoke spreading into nearby flats and stairwells.

Barcelona Fire Brigade deployed five units to extinguish the blaze, while SEM sent three ambulances. The Urban Guard also attended, cutting off the street during the operation.

Authorities noted that fires linked to e-scooters have tripled in Barcelona between 2021 and 2024, rising from 4 incidents to 14 in 2024.
