The new building will cover 600 square metres. Moreover, it will eliminate all architectural barriers, replacing the current structure. It’ll connect to an underground passage currently under construction.

Ongoing works at the station cost an additional €4.3 million (VAT included). Therefore, the total investment in Montcada-Bifurcació exceeds €11 million. These improvements aim to boost capacity for Rodalies lines R3, R4, R7, and R12.

The station also serves as a crucial junction. Indeed, it provides versatile routing options towards Barcelona’s tunnels. Additionally, it’ll improve parking capacity for Rodalies and Regional trains.

What the works include

Current construction reconfigures the track layout. Workers are modifying 5.5 kilometres of track across five main circulation lines. Meanwhile, they’re installing 17 new switches.

Three new platforms will be built, each 200 metres long. Furthermore, vertical communication hubs will house lifts and stairs for platform access. These ensure full accessibility throughout the station.

The newly awarded contract covers architectural finishes and installations. Specifically, it includes the underground passage beneath the tracks with lifts guaranteeing accessibility. The passage connects all platforms seamlessly.

External works address the station’s surroundings. Plans include perimeter fencing, a new exit pavilion, and an adjacent square. The area will feature improved paving, vegetation, furniture, and dedicated bus stop space.
