Barcelona is the base for El Salvador’s consul general, Benito Miró, who says the city matters for Salvadoran residents, consular help and business links. For people who need official paperwork or support, the consulate remains the local contact in Barcelona.
Miró told El Periódico Barcelona that he chose to live in the city because it is, in his words, “an extraordinary city, open to the world, with a great capacity for international integration and with unique human and cultural quality.” He added that “Barcelona represents dialogue, modernity and opportunities.”
According to Miró, the consulate’s role includes supporting Salvadoran people in the city and promoting cooperation, investment and opportunities between El Salvador and Spain. That is most relevant for residents who need consular help, and for Barcelona companies that are looking at trade, tourism or technology links with El Salvador.
Miró is also vice-dean of the Executive Committee of the Consular Corps of Barcelona, the group that brings together consular representatives in the city. He is a member of Barcelona Global, the civic group that works to position Barcelona as a leading international city, and he named its president José María Ajenjo and CEO Mercè Conesa.
