The Institut de Mercats Municipals de Barcelona opened the tender process this week, which will remain active until 18 November at 2pm.
This represents the second auction of the year as part of the municipal government’s strategy to reactivate commercial spaces throughout the city’s market network.

Barcelona Markets Auction Details Revealed
The current Barcelona markets auction includes 65 food establishments and 11 non-food businesses spread across all 10 districts. Additionally, 55 storage spaces are available, including 19 newly created units at the recently opened Montserrat market in Roquetes, Nou Barris. Consequently, this comprehensive offering aims to fill the remaining 4.2% of vacant spaces within Barcelona’s municipal market system.
According to recent infrastructure developments, the municipal markets continue to play a vital role in Barcelona’s commercial landscape. Furthermore, the auction process has been streamlined this year, with interested parties only needing to complete an initial form expressing interest and proposing economic terms. Therefore, documentation requirements have been postponed until the formal adjudication phase.
The Barcelona markets auction represents a significant opportunity for entrepreneurs seeking established commercial locations. Meanwhile, the inclusion of spaces across diverse districts ensures accessibility for both local residents and visitors. The municipal government’s ongoing commitment to market revitalisation reflects broader economic strategies aimed at strengthening Barcelona’s commercial fabric.
This Barcelona markets auction follows similar initiatives earlier in the year that successfully reactivated numerous commercial spaces. The continued focus on filling vacant stalls demonstrates the city’s dedication to maintaining vibrant, fully operational municipal markets that serve communities across Barcelona.
