A fallen tree has forced the evacuation of 220 passengers from two Rodalies trains and halted all traffic on the R11 line between Girona and Caldes de Malavella.

The tree came down onto the tracks near Fornells de la Selva, damaging the overhead power lines.

So, the first train, carrying 150 passengers between Caldes de Malavella and Girona, underwent stopped by the obstacle.

Passengers faced major delays and had to find alternative travel plans. Daniela Cabeza, travelling from Flaçà to Barcelona, described the scene. “The train stopped in Girona for 20 minutes,” she said.

Technical teams worked until 10:00 am to remove the tree and inspect the infrastructure. Service resumed then, but delays persisted throughout the day, averaging over 45 minutes by the afternoon.

Friday’s problems weren’t isolated to the R11 line. A separate issue on the R4 line between Martorell and La Granada in the afternoon caused average delays over 30 minutes.

According to a report in El Periódico, Adif technicians resolved that high-speed fault by 9:20 am.Residual delays continued as services normalised.

Overall, the fallen tree on the R11 line caused a chaotic morning for hundreds of commuters.
