Mental health support failures have been exposed following a tragic incident in L’Hospitalet where a woman fell to her death from a balcony.
The victim, named Neus, was allegedly pushed by her son who suffers from mental health issues, according to police investigations treating the case as domestic violence.
The Association of Relatives of Mentally Ill People in L’Hospitalet (AFEMHOS) has issued a powerful statement condemning what they describe as Neus’s “loneliness” and “helplessness” before her death.

Mental Health System Under Scrutiny
AFEMHOS revealed that “Neus suffered great loneliness and was completely abandoned by institutions.” Consequently, they stress this situation reflects a broader systemic failure affecting many families.
Municipal sources in L’Hospitalet confirmed to El Periódico that they have no record of Neus contacting Urban Guard or receiving follow-up from Social Services. Therefore, the case highlights significant gaps in community support systems.
The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning when Neus fell from a balcony on Llobregat Street. Meanwhile, her son remains in custody as Mossos d’Esquadra continue their investigation into the domestic violence incident.
Neus was known for her involvement in community organisations in the Collblanc and Torrassa neighbourhoods. Additionally, her death has sparked urgent conversations about mental health support infrastructure throughout Barcelona’s metropolitan area.
