Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has tendered works to renovate 10 lifts and 9 escalators across its Barcelona-Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia lines. This significant €4 million investment will improve accessibility at 11 stations and one operational centre in the Barcelona metropolitan area.

The project includes replacing existing lifts and improving their enclosures, pits, and service installations. Additionally, FGC will fully replace all existing escalators. These upgrades aim to enhance the daily travel experience for thousands of commuters.

Specific Barcelona stations receiving new lifts include Les Planes (two lifts) and Avinguda Tibidabo (one lift). Other lift renovations will occur at Sabadell Rambla (one), Sant Cugat Centre (two), and Molí Nou in Sant Boi de Llobregat (two). The Rubí Operational Centre will also receive two new lifts.

Escalator replacements will benefit Plaça Catalunya (one) and Magòria La Campana (one) in Barcelona. Further escalator upgrades are planned for Terrassa Rambla (three) and Rubí Centre (two). Can Ros in Sant Vicenç dels Horts will receive one, as will Molí Nou Ciutat Cooperativa.

Investment and Timeline for FGC Upgrades

The lift renovation project carries a budget of €2.1 million, with an expected execution period of 15 months. The escalator replacement scheme has a budget of €2.2 million, also with a 15-month execution timeline. In total, the tender mobilises over €4 million in public investment.

Improving Barcelona's Commuter Network

The Barcelona-Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia lines are critical for daily commuters travelling between Barcelona and the surrounding municipalities. These FGC lines connect major residential and business hubs, including the Vallès Occidental and Baix Llobregat areas. The upgrades will ensure more reliable and accessible public transport for residents and visitors alike.

FGC expects these renovations to significantly improve passenger flow and accessibility across its network. The 15-month execution period means commuters can anticipate a smoother and more modern travel experience in the near future.
