The Fira Gran Via Hall Zero project has reached a major milestone. Consequently, the skeleton of the massive new pavilion is now complete. This development significantly transforms the skyline of L’Hospitalet. Moreover, the expansion of the Fira Gran Via fairground will cement Barcelona’s status as a premier global events destination.
Catalan Minister of Economy Alícia Romero confirmed the progress during a site visit on Tuesday. Construction is on schedule, with 49% of the total work now finished. Additionally, the project commands an investment exceeding €300 million. Officials expect the building to be fully constructed by 2026. Therefore, it should be operational for events by the summer of 2027.

Fira Gran Via Hall Zero: A monumental structure
The new facility covers an impressive 135,000 square metres. Moreover, it is designed to accommodate the largest international exhibitions. The Fira Gran Via Hall Zero pavilion boasts a height of 48 metres. Consequently, this is significantly taller than Barcelona’s iconic Arc de Triomf, which stands at 30 metres. Officials note the space is vast enough to house a 300-seat aircraft.
An attached office tower is rapidly taking shape alongside the main hall. The structure will eventually rise to 14 floors, with 10 already built. Additionally, a large elevated walkway is also ready. This walkway will connect the new Hall Zero with the existing pavilion network. Therefore, it ensures seamless integration with the current fairground complex.
Design and future timeline
The heavy structural work is largely done. Consequently, the next phase involves cladding the façades and fitting out the interiors. The design features a wave-shaped silhouette. This mirrors the existing pavilions. Moreover, a large two-level exterior terrace, rich in vegetation, tops the structure. The monumental columns that define the lower floor entrance are already in place.
The building will be finished in 2026. However, the calendar for hosting flagship events requires slightly more patience. General events may begin in mid-2027. Additionally, the facility is scheduled to host major trade fairs such as the Mobile World Congress (MWC) and Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) starting in 2028.
An economic icon
Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni accompanied Minister Romero on the site visit. He described the project as more than just an engineering feat. Moreover, Collboni hailed the new building as an “architectural icon”. He called it a symbol of a new era for the institution internationally.
“We gain square metres and we will be able to improve the offer,” Collboni stated. He highlighted the strategic importance of the expansion for the local economy. Consequently, with the structure now defined, the focus shifts to the detailed finishing work. This work will prepare the Fira Gran Via Hall Zero for its global debut.
