FNAC has confirmed its new Rambla store will open on 23 October in the historic Modelo tailor building. The French retailer closed its El Triangle shopping centre location in July and has renovated the six-storey building between Carrer de Pelai and Carrer Tallers.

The building covers nearly 3,000 square metres with over 400 square metres on each of its six floors. FNAC managed to dodge the licence suspension that Barcelona council imposed on the Rambla in summer 2024, after Mayor Jaume Collboni’s administration lifted the veto for cultural activities.

This policy change allowed the Club Capitol to reopen as a new cultural space and permitted other activities with cultural licences. FNAC wants the new store to become a cultural, technological and commercial hub at the heart of the city’s tourist centre, strengthening its relationship with Barcelona and local residents.

“It will be a more modern space, designed to offer an improved shopping experience and greater variety of services,” the company explained. “We’re preparing a renovated venue to continue serving our customers in central Barcelona.”

The building sat empty for the past four years and previously housed a large H&M store. Meanwhile, FNAC’s move has left its old El Triangle location vacant, which will now become a MediaMarkt. The German technology retailer won the battle against Inditex and will open the new store after investing around 7.5 million euros.
