Police in Barcelona have arrested a fugitive hitman wanted in Sweden for preparing two murders, ending an international manhunt.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, had been under investigation by Swedish authorities before fleeing the country. He was eventually traced to Barcelona, where he is believed to have been hiding while planning further crimes.
Specialist officers carried out the arrest in coordination with Swedish counterparts and Europol. The operation highlights Barcelona’s role as a frequent refuge for fugitives due to its size and international links.
Spanish police confirmed that the man is now in custody, pending extradition proceedings to Sweden. Authorities have described him as a ‘dangerous individual’ with ties to organised crime.
The case comes amid growing concern over contract killings in Scandinavia, where criminal gangs have increasingly resorted to professional hitmen to settle disputes.
