Barcelona’s Sant Andreu district is home to a Gaudí mosaic that still has no official protection. The piece sits on the floor of the central nave at Sant Pacià parish, and it has recently been added to the Consell Gaudí, the body managed by the Generalitat that brings together Gaudí works across Catalonia.
The mosaic was previously unrecognised, and its new place on the Consell Gaudí has not yet led to formal safeguarding. That leaves the artwork, which is linked to Catalan modernism, without the protection many local heritage groups believe it deserves.
Campaigners are now calling for action to secure the mosaic’s future. For more on the local political push around the site, see our earlier report on the protection proposal.
The issue sits alongside other Barcelona neighbourhood concerns. In the Eixample, parents at Gaia School near Glòries say truck traffic during school hours is still not being properly controlled, despite agreed limits. The school is currently in prefabricated modules and is due to move into a new building in two years, next to the current site.
Elsewhere, residents at Peu del Funicular are still dealing with hanging and accumulated cables, after some were damaged by passing trucks. Locals want them buried underground, but the Ajuntament and Telefónica say that is not planned in the near future. They do, however, plan to repair the asphalt damage linked to the cable problem.
