Google has activated voice synthesis in Catalan for its Gemini application on Android devices. This Gemini app Catalan voice support marks a significant step forward for Catalan speakers using the tech giant’s artificial intelligence tools. Consequently, users with their device or application settings configured to Catalan can now listen to responses directly in the language, rather than relying solely on text-based interactions.

The update brings a more natural user experience to the platform. Following a voice engine update that began rolling out in early January, the app now supports a “fluid conversation” mode. This feature allows users to converse with the AI orally and interrupt it mid-sentence without needing to press a button. Therefore, it mimics the flow of a human conversation.

Gemini App Catalan Voice Support Expands to European Languages

This enhancement is part of a broader expansion of Gemini’s conversational capabilities across Europe. In addition to Catalan, the update introduces support for Galician and Basque. This broadens the accessibility of Google’s AI tools within the Iberian Peninsula.

Voice Control for Third-Party Apps via Gemini

Beyond general conversation, the update deepens the utility of the assistant. It enables voice interaction with other popular applications. For example, Gemini can now interact in Catalan with services such as WhatsApp, Spotify, and Google Maps. Previously, these voice-controlled integrations were primarily functional only in English or Spanish.

Growing Language Support for the Gemini App

According to reports, the Android version of Gemini now offers voice support in 70 languages. It utilises nine distinct voices that provide 40 different variants. Meanwhile, Catalan text support has been available in advanced Gemini models since November. However, the activation of voice synthesis completes the experience, allowing for fully spoken interaction. This is especially relevant considering the recent formal agreement to promote Catalan in legislative documents.
