This milestone coincides with the first anniversary of the TramBesòs extension to Verdaguer station. The expansion represents the initial phase of connecting Barcelona’s two tram networks along Diagonal Avenue. Transport officials report the new service has boosted TramBesòs demand by 30-40% throughout 2025, building on the strong growth demonstrated during its initial months of operation.
The T4 line inaugurated its new Diagonal route on November 10, 2024, and by year’s end had already recorded nearly 24% growth compared to 2023. This translated to 11.3 million validations, a figure that has since been surpassed in 2025 with 12.3 million journeys recorded with two months remaining. Additionally, the Besòs tram now provides up to 50,000 daily trips during peak weekday periods.
The newly opened Verdaguer station, which connects to Metro Lines L5 and L4 alongside several bus routes, averages 4,300 daily validations. Meanwhile, the additional new stops at Monumental and Sicília each record approximately 1,500 daily passengers.
