Police Response to Gold Chain Snatchings
Urban Crime Group officers from Gavà and Castelldefels made the arrest on Monday 13th October. Furthermore, investigators had noted a concerning increase in violent robberies targeting gold chain wearers in recent weeks. The suspect consistently used an electric scooter to approach victims unexpectedly before violently snatching their jewellery.

Descriptions from victims and witnesses across all three incidents proved remarkably consistent. Consequently, this enabled police to identify a potential suspect during a robbery prevention operation in Castelldefels town centre. Officers observed a young man riding a scooter who matched the detailed description perfectly.
Additionally, police conducted discreet surveillance and noted suspicious behaviour patterns. The individual alternated between scooter use and walking while paying particular attention to people around him. Moreover, he appeared to be specifically looking for people wearing gold jewellery in public areas.
Investigation Reveals Wider Legal Issues
Officers subsequently made the arrest and identification check. Therefore, they discovered the young man was subject to an outstanding judicial requirement from a court outside Catalonia. The investigation later connected him to three violent robberies committed in Castelldefels.
Meanwhile, police established that the suspect travelled to Castelldefels from his home in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat specifically to commit these crimes. Despite having no prior police record, the arrested individual was placed at the disposal of the Gavà duty court on Wednesday 15th October. This case highlights ongoing efforts to combat street crime prevention in Barcelona and surrounding areas.
The successful operation demonstrates how coordinated police work can address patterns of criminal behaviour effectively. Furthermore, it shows the importance of community vigilance and accurate witness descriptions in solving such cases.
