The Goya Awards Barcelona 2026 programme marks the ceremony’s return after 25 years. Spain’s equivalent of the Oscars, the Goyas are hosted by Barcelona with an ambitious cultural programme. Consequently, the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, alongside the City Council and the Generalitat, has woven the ceremony into the fabric of daily life in the Catalan capital.
Meanwhile, the main gala will take place on 28 February 2026 at the Auditori Fòrum (CCIB). However, festivities begin weeks in advance. Fernando Méndez-Leite, president of the Academy, stated the goal is to make Barcelona “feel proud to host the most important night of Spanish cinema”.

Goya Awards Barcelona 2026: Giant Statues and Urban Exhibitions
Starting immediately, the city streets transform into a tribute to the film industry. An exhibition titled La emoción de los Goya (The Emotion of the Goyas) is now open at Plaça de les Glòries until 1 March. Through large-format photography, the installation pays homage to nearly 60 Catalan professionals. These include directors J.A. Bayona, Carla Simón, and Isabel Coixet, who have played pivotal roles in the awards’ history.
Furthermore, seven giant replicas of the iconic Goya statuette now stand at emblematic locations. These include the Jardinets de Gràcia, Plaça de Sant Jaume, the MNAC, and the Portal de la Pau. Additionally, a dedicated ‘photocall’ featuring a large Goya head will be available at City Hall from 16 to 28 February.

Four days later, on 26 February, the Palau de la Música presents a unique “sound fiction” performance. This performance is based on Gonzalo Suárez’s 1988 film Remando al viento. Suárez, who receives this year’s Honorary Goya, launched his directing career in Barcelona.
