Barcelona’s Gràcia district has unveiled the official poster for its Festa Major de Gràcia 2026. Artist Pol Lupiáñez Ortega created the winning design. It features a vibrant community dance floor.
The festival will take place from 15 to 21 August 2026. It is held in the Vila de Gràcia neighbourhood. This historic area is known for its unique community spirit. Lupiáñez Ortega, from Sant Boi de Llobregat, won the 33rd poster competition. He received a €2,000 prize.
Community Dance Theme
The artist reflected on his creation. He stated, ‘In a context marked by speed and immediacy, the poster proposes a reflection on the importance of collective spaces.’ He noted these spaces ‘generate a sense of belonging.’ ‘The Festa Major de Gràcia thus presents itself as a moment to stop, share, and strengthen community ties,’ he added.
Lupiáñez Ortega further explained his vision. He said, ‘The image captures this instant when the street transforms into a dance floor.’ He added, ‘The community becomes the true protagonist.’
Historical Inspiration
The design evokes traditional festivals, marquee dances, and neighbourhood celebrations. It uses typography inspired by early 20th-century styles. This aligns with historical imagery. The poster places popular dance at its core. It recognises dance as a historical and identity-forming element of the festival.
This concept highlights dance as a space for community gathering and coexistence. The design draws inspiration from old photographs of marquee dances. It champions the visual memory of decorated streets. It also celebrates the collective spirit of the celebration.
The Festa Major de Gràcia is one of Barcelona’s most beloved neighbourhood festivals. It transforms the streets of the Gràcia district. This happens into a spectacle of elaborate decorations and cultural events each August. Thousands of residents and tourists flock to the area. They experience the unique atmosphere.
Selection Process and Exhibition
A jury selected Lupiáñez Ortega’s design from 267 proposals. This jury comprised design and illustration professionals. Representatives from the festival commissions also participated. They initially chose 10 finalists.
The Fundació Festa Major de Gràcia will exhibit these 10 finalist works. They will be on display at Can Musons. This is the foundation’s headquarters. This provides an opportunity to see all the shortlisted designs.
With the poster now revealed, anticipation builds for the 2026 festival. Residents and visitors can look forward to another vibrant celebration. It will showcase Gràcia’s community spirit and traditions.
