In Igualada, the Guardia Civil rescued three abandoned dogs from a derelict farmhouse on 26 May. Officers said the animals showed clear signs of severe neglect and malnutrition.
The rescue was carried out by the Patrulla del Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (Seprona) from Manresa, after they received information about the dogs' poor condition. Officers found the animals inside a shed with access to an open, fenced area, and said their owner had not provided care.
Investigators believe the dogs had been left at the site for about two months. They may have survived because an unknown person occasionally gave them food and water, but the animals were still abandoned and in poor condition.
Only one of the three dogs had a microchip, and it was registered to the person now under investigation. None of the animals had a health card, which points to a lack of veterinary care.
The dogs were taken to a canine centre in Olesa de Bonesvalls, where they are now receiving food, veterinary treatment and general care. The Guardia Civil has not yet located the owner, and the case has been sent to the Igualada Duty Court.
