Officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra Traffic Unit have arrested a 31-year-old lorry driver in Vic following a significant hashish seizure in his vehicle. Consequently, the driver was taken into custody on Wednesday after police found more than six kilograms of hashish hidden within the heavy goods vehicle (HGV). This major hashish seizure in Vic began as a standard preventive control operation.
The incident occurred on 4 February along the B-521 road, near the capital of the Osona region. According to police reports, agents initially stopped the vehicle to inspect documentation, monitor mandatory rest periods, and verify technical compliance. During the inspection, officers identified two specific administrative infractions: a failure to properly record border crossing data and deficiencies in transport authorisations.

From Administrative Infractions to Criminal Charges
These violations carried a combined penalty of €4,800. As the lorry was a foreign-registered vehicle, Spanish regulations require immediate payment of such fines. When the driver stated he was unable to pay the penalty on the spot, officers informed him that the vehicle would be immobilised in accordance with traffic laws.
Hashish Seizure in Vic: Drugs Hidden Under Mattress
As the situation escalated to the immobilisation of the truck, police officers noticed a strong odour of marijuana emanating from the cabin. Therefore, they conducted a thorough search.
During the search, the Mossos discovered a plastic bag concealed beneath the driver’s mattress. The bag contained 35 individual packages of hashish, with a total weight of 6.315 kilograms. This substantial hashish seizure in Vic led to the driver’s immediate arrest.
Consequently, the driver now faces serious drug trafficking charges. Furthermore, police indicate these charges could also suggest involvement in evolving organized crime syndicates.
