A human smuggling fugitive wanted for transporting immigrants from Morocco to Catalonia has been captured by the Spanish National Police in Manlleu. The man, who had gone to great lengths to hide from authorities, was eventually undone by his routine of enjoying a coffee at a specific terrace in the Osona town.
Criminal Network Investigation
The suspect was sought under an extradition order issued by the National Court (Audiencia Nacional). Authorities identified him as a key organiser in a criminal network. This network was dedicated to transporting undocumented migrants from North Africa to the Catalan coast using recreational boats.

Going Underground
Upon learning of the prison order against him, the man attempted to vanish completely. For four months, he severed all communication with his family. He also frequently changed his address and telephone number to evade detection. Furthermore, he ceased updating his details in public databases. This action made it significantly harder for investigators to track his movements.
Caught by Routine
Despite his extensive efforts to remain off the grid, the fugitive’s social habits proved to be his downfall. Agents from the National Police station in Vic discovered that he regularly visited a specific café in Manlleu.
Officers established a surveillance perimeter around the establishment to prevent any chance of escape. When the suspect eventually arrived for his coffee, police moved in and arrested him on the terrace without incident.
Following the operation, the authorities placed the man at the disposal of the judicial authorities. He has been remanded in custody and now awaits extradition to Morocco. There, he will face charges regarding his alleged role in the smuggling ring.
