Global fashion giant Inditex, Zara’s parent company, will construct a major new corporate campus in Sant Adrià de Besòs, reshaping Barcelona’s northern coastline. This 164,000-square-metre complex will partially open in 2028, with full completion expected by 2030.

The project involves relocating central services for four popular brands: Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Oysho, and Lefties. Currently, these operations reside in Tordera, further up the coast. This move signifies a major investment in the Barcelona metropolitan area, reinforcing Inditex’s already significant presence in Catalonia, where it employs over 8,500 people.
A Strategic Relocation
While Inditex’s global headquarters remain in Arteixo, Galicia, this new campus will expand the company’s operational capacity and fuel its growth. The company clarified the strategic reasoning, stating, “This transfer will allow the Group to continue increasing the available logistics capacity at the Tordera-Palafolls complex, from where it distributes products for Massimo Dutti, Bershka, and Oysho to all the markets in which these chains operate.”
The project recently achieved a key milestone: initial approval for its Urban Improvement Plan from the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council. However, final authorisation from the Catalan government, the Generalitat de Catalunya, is still required before construction can begin.
Transforming the Besòs Waterfront
The new campus will sit on a 90,000-square-metre plot near the iconic Tres Chimeneas (Three Chimneys), a decommissioned thermal power plant symbolic of the area’s industrial past. This development forms a core component of Sant Adrià de Besòs’ ambitious urban transformation, aiming to revitalise the post-industrial waterfront.
The plan also reorganises the adjacent Alcampo commercial complex. Renowned Barcelona-based studio Batlleiroig, a long-standing partner of Inditex, designed the architectural plan, envisioning a mini-city concept. It will feature four distinct buildings, each with a ground floor and four upper levels, arranged around three large interior courtyards. According to initial reports in 20 Minutos, the structures will reach a maximum height of 27.5 metres.
The state-of-the-art facilities will include modern offices, specialised pattern-making workshops, pilot stores for testing new retail concepts, and advanced audiovisual production spaces. This investment signals a strong commitment to Catalonia, where Inditex already operates the Stradivarius headquarters in Cerdanyola del Vallès and a logistics centre for the brand in Sallent, alongside a retail network of over 170 stores.
A New Hub for Barcelona
Inditex’s arrival is set to have a transformative economic and social impact on Sant Adrià and the wider Besòs area. This development forms part of a broader strategy to regenerate the river’s final stretch, a long-term project that aims to redefine the Besòs waterfront and integrate it more fully into the city’s fabric. Bringing thousands of high-skilled jobs to the area, the campus will act as a powerful catalyst for further investment and development, transforming a once-neglected industrial zone into a vibrant new economic hub for the region.
