Furthermore, it brings a family-run tradition that began in 1985 to Barcelona’s diverse food landscape. The establishment specifically avoids the franchise model, maintaining direct family management across all locations worldwide.
Founder Shigemi Kawahara earned the nickname ‘Ramen King’ after winning the Ramen Chef Championship three times. Consequently, his reputation soared following television recognition as Japan’s premier ramen master. The brand first expanded internationally to New York in 2008, where queues became a signature feature.
Barcelona’s selection as a destination reflects Ippudo’s preference for non-capital cities with coastal connections. Meanwhile, the city continues to attract international culinary talent, as evidenced by Barcelona’s growing appeal to business and cultural travellers.
The restaurant specialises in Hakata-style ramen featuring a rich, white pork bone broth simmered for 48 hours. The menu also includes their famous Hirata buns, steamed buns invented in New York.
Lunch deals from Monday to Friday provide excellent value at €15. This includes either steamed buns or fried chicken, a ramen bowl of choice, and a drink. The restaurant operates on a walk-in basis only, maintaining their traditional no-reservation policy.
