Barcelona interior designer Isern Serra has spent 18 years shaping more than 20 venues across the city, with around half of his work in gastronomy. His studio, set up in 2008, is known for calm, harmonious spaces with plenty of character.

One of his newer projects is Circl, a matcha and Pilates space at Balmes, 82. Entrepreneur Anya Labgaa said the venue has had unexpected success and strong traction on social media, while the design aims to bring “calm, clarity and minimalism” to the space.

Labgaa said Circl is meant to “close this circle of caring for oneself inside and out”. Serra described it as “magic, colour and matcha”, built for a strong visual impact. The project adds to a growing list of Barcelona venues shaped by his studio.

Serra’s hospitality work includes Fiskebar, a maritime restaurant from Grupo Tragaluz at Passeig d'Ítaca, 3, inside a maritime club. The design centres on a stone bar, with beige sofas, microcement flooring and large windows looking out over the port.

Another project is Jaç The Miners Café on Avinguda Diagonal, 335, in Poblenou. Serra said the studio is “versatile, with a Mediterranean influence that looks to the past and also has a very futuristic vision”, and that approach also runs through Focacha, Origo bakery, Little Fern bakery, the first physical Relleno site on Via Augusta, 39, and the Moco Museum concept store.

Serra said his team leaves “a small footprint, an aesthetic of spaces and the experiences their inhabitants have”. Interest in his work grew after he designed his own home, a rationalist building by Coderch, and the studio is now getting enquiries from London, Washington and Lisbon.
