The Kare Design furniture and decoration store, a distinctive presence on Barcelona’s Avinguda Diagonal for the past five years, will close its current location at the end of February. Before relocating to a new, as-yet-undisclosed site within the city, a major three-day liquidation sale offered substantial discounts to shoppers.

The German brand, known internationally for its unconventional and playful furniture, lighting, and accessories, has occupied the prominent retail space at number 427 on Avinguda Diagonal since its opening half a decade ago. Situated on one of Barcelona’s most important and widest avenues, the store became a go-to for interior design enthusiasts seeking unique pieces.
Stock Liquidation Draws Crowds
To clear its stock before the move, the store organised a large-scale liquidation event. A report by Barcelona Secreta indicates the sale took place from Tuesday, 20 February to Thursday, 22 February. During this time, customers could purchase display furniture and decorative items with discounts ranging from 35% to 80%.
Such liquidation sales often generate significant public interest in Barcelona, as seen recently when hundreds queued for bargains from a hotel refurbishment. After the sale concluded, the Kare team prepared for the definitive closure of the doors, finalising the move from the premises by the end of the month.
A Shifting Retail Landscape
Kare’s decision to relocate rather than exit the city suggests a strategic repositioning within the Barcelona market. While the new location remains undisclosed, the move reflects the dynamic and constantly evolving retail scene in the Catalan capital. This mirrors similar strategic relocations by major brands, such as MediaMarkt’s recent move from Carrer de Fontanella to the El Triangle shopping centre.
Avinguda Diagonal, a major artery for commerce and business, continues to be a focal point for retail developments. Further down the avenue, the Hilton Diagonal Mar recently completed a major Mediterranean-inspired renovation, and the area prepares for the arrival of retail giant TK Maxx, set to open its first Spanish store in the Diagonal Mar shopping centre. The high-end retail sector also remains fluid, with brands like Louis Vuitton recently opening temporary locations while flagship stores undergo refurbishment.
The five-year tenure of Kare Design at its current address is typical for an initial commercial lease term, suggesting the relocation could be a planned strategic step for the company’s next phase in Barcelona. The brand has not yet made an official announcement regarding the address or opening date of its new premises.
