La Maquinista Christmas market launches this week with Barcelona’s largest natural ice rink as its centrepiece attraction.
The Westfield shopping centre’s festive programme promises to transform its outdoor parking area into a winter wonderland from 27th November to 5th December.
The 800-square-metre ice rink represents the most extensive natural ice surface ever installed within Barcelona’s city limits.

Furthermore, the market aims to recreate the authentic atmosphere of traditional Central European Christmas markets that have become increasingly popular across the continent.
La Maquinista Christmas Market Expands Festive Family Offerings
Beyond the impressive ice rink, visitors will discover numerous other attractions designed specifically for family entertainment. These include Christmas stalls, a miniature train traversing the market area, a substantial 12-metre slide, and dedicated spaces for meeting Father Christmas and the Three Kings.
The shopping centre has also programmed special activities throughout the festive season. Additionally, the Gerónimo Stilton House offers an immersive experience produced by Nostromo Live, featuring interactive theatre, sensory elements and escape room dynamics across eight themed rooms for children aged 5 to 14.
Meanwhile, the initiative demonstrates community spirit through its ‘Solidarity Machine’ installation. Inspired by international ‘Giving Machines’, this allows visitors to make donations entirely directed toward several social organisations including Cruz Roja, Casal dels Infants and Salut Mental Catalunya.
The La Maquinista Christmas market operates daily except for 25th-26th December and 1st-6th January. However, restaurants and cinemas within the complex will remain open throughout the holiday period, including on public holidays.
This major festive installation follows other significant Christmas initiatives across Barcelona this season. The city continues to expand its winter attractions while maintaining its commitment to community-focused programming.
