Near Barcelona, La Roca Village has opened a new art project inspired by Antoni Gaudí. It brings together three large floral doors and a photography exhibition about 24 Barcelona homes.

The floral doors were created by Barcelona studio Flowers by Bornay, led by Joan Xapelli. The wooden structures are covered petal by petal and take cues from the wrought-iron gates of La Pedrera and the ceramic roof of Casa Batlló.

The project marks several cultural dates, including the centenary of Gaudí’s death, the completion of the Sagrada Família’s Jesus Tower, and Barcelona’s year as World Capital of Architecture. The doors use colours linked to the Sagrada Família’s stained-glass windows, with volcanic orange dahlias, blue Delphinium, green lisianthus and hydrangeas.

Photographer Jordi Bernadó’s exhibition brings together images of 24 private homes in Barcelona, from La Pedrera to El Raval. The portraits include homes linked to architects, filmmakers, artists, expats and other residents, and one belongs to La Pedrera’s last tenant.

The photo show will open in two stages, with 12 images shown first and the remaining 12 added later. The floral doors will stay on display until September, while the full photography exhibition runs until December. For more on the village, see our La Roca Village coverage and the Community tag.
