Les Corts Fire Emergency Response Details

Fire plans are moving ahead in Barcelona. A suspected stove combustion sparked the overnight blaze, requiring an 8-hour firefighting operation by eleven emergency vehicles.

The Tot Barcelona news outlet reports that the fire broke out at approximately 8:30 PM on the night of 5 January. It’s suspected that a stove’s combustion may have caused the blaze. Eleven fire brigade vehicles attended, and firefighters worked to extinguish the flames until 4:00 AM.

The fire was located on the fourth floor. At the time, there were 45 people in the building. However, as a result of the incident, 27 residents had to leave their homes. This was due to the building’s electrical supply being cut off above the floor where the fire occurred, but the council offered them emergency accommodation.

Residents Seek Alternative Housing After Fire

While the council activated its social emergency services and offered lodging to the 27 displaced individuals, all of them opted for their own arrangements.

Past Incidents and Fire Safety in Barcelona

Last year, on the final day of 2025, a separate fire incident led city authorities to review building regulations.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures. Ensuring working smoke detectors, having clear evacuation plans, and exercising caution with potential fire hazards are crucial steps for all residents. Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the Les Corts fire to prevent future occurrences.
