The Mossos d’Esquadra have launched a murder investigation following the violent death of a woman in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Consequently, the body was discovered on Thursday evening inside a warehouse occupied by squatters.

L’Hospitalet Murder Investigation Underway
The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) has taken charge of the case, which is under a secrecy order. Meanwhile, authorities have not officially confirmed the specific cause of death. However, sources suggest the woman suffered stab wounds.

Residents’ Warnings Were Ignored
The incident occurred in a block formed by Mayor, Santa Ana, Provenza, and Roselles streets. Residents reported nearly two years of continuous disturbances. The site, accessed through a former hardware store, leads to old, illegally occupied warehouses.
Neighbours collected more than 700 signatures demanding the eviction of squatters. They cited constant shouting, fighting, and drug-related activities. One resident expressed understandable frustration: “What else has to happen?” This frustration aligns with a stark pattern of repeat offending in Catalonia that challenges law enforcement.
According to local accounts, the situation deteriorated significantly over 18 months. A group allegedly involved in drug use arrived. Residents reported the warehouse was subdivided to rent rooms illicitly. They noted a worrying volume of people, including minors, entering at all hours. This environment raises concerns about related criminal trends, including reports of violent youth gangs evolving into organised crime.
Council Response to the Incident
The property owner, an investment fund, filed a legal complaint to recover the space in late 2024. Following the death, the City Council moved to seal parts of the premises.
Local authorities stated they previously placed permanent surveillance outside the venue. This action reduced overnight occupants but failed to stop activity entirely. The council now offers temporary accommodation to remaining occupants. This move should facilitate the definitive emptying of the building.
