The Centre d’Esports L’Hospitalet’s home ground will receive comprehensive upgrades following approval from L’Hospitalet de Llobregat council. This substantial funding aims to waterproof the Olympic-era structure and replace the deteriorating playing surface that has concerned club officials for months.
L’Hospitalet Stadium Renovation Addresses Safety Concerns
The municipal plenary approved €450,000 specifically for the football stadium on October 28th. Furthermore, this allocation complements an earlier €540,000 injection approved in September for structural repairs. Council documents describe the current pitch as being “at the end of its useful life” with accelerated deterioration that “compromises safety and playing quality.” Consequently, the renovation promises to guarantee optimal conditions for sporting practice and continuous facility use.
CE L’Hospitalet president Antoni Garcia expressed satisfaction with the council’s response to longstanding concerns about water leakage issues. “They’ve fulfilled the proposal they told us would be on the table,” Garcia stated, acknowledging this initial step toward modernising the equipment. However, the pitch replacement process remains more complex, with ongoing disputes between the council and the original installation company, Fieldturf Poligras SA, regarding warranty claims.
The club maintains that despite minor repairs, the playing surface continues to present problems. Meanwhile, municipal sources confirmed they’ve activated an internal warranty process with Poligras, arguing the installed turf has lasted less time than anticipated. Company representatives counter that the seven-year-old surface complies with regulations and doesn’t require complete replacement.
Future Plans and Broader Ambitions
Beyond immediate repairs, the L’Hospitalet stadium renovation forms part of broader ambitions for the club. Negotiations continue regarding stadium transfer to CE L’Hospitalet management, which would enable alternative revenue streams and facility control. This development aligns with the club’s transformation into a Sociedad Anónima Deportiva (SAD) to address approximately €1.5 million in debt and meet requirements for higher Spanish football competitions.
The project, backed by former Barcelona players Jordi Alba and Thiago Alcántara alongside entrepreneurs Oscar Pierre and Gonzalo Álvarez, ultimately aims for first-division status within a decade. Therefore, future upgrades will eventually require natural grass and additional training facilities to support the club’s growth trajectory. These developments reflect broader economic investment trends in the region’s sporting infrastructure.
