Barcelona Metro Line 4 will experience significant disruption as Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona (TMB) implements crucial modernisation works affecting more than ten stations. The closure will specifically impact the section between Urquinaona and La Pau stations, with efforts to extend the works to Besòs, coinciding with the Spanish Constitution bridge weekend from 6-8 December 2025.

Barcelona Metro Line 4 Accessibility Improvements
This temporary closure forms part of TMB’s ongoing strategy to enhance station accessibility, safety and operational efficiency. Furthermore, the works will include installation of new lifts and renovation of station flooring to better serve passengers with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs and pregnant travellers. Consequently, these improvements represent a significant investment in Barcelona’s public transport infrastructure.

Meanwhile, metro services will remain operational between Trinitat Nova and Passeig de Gràcia stations during the closure period. This marks the latest in a series of upgrades affecting Line 4 throughout 2025, following previous works between Trinitat Nova and Verdaguer in June and subsequent station reopenings in September.
Additionally, passengers should note that the interchange between Lines 4 and 5 at Verdaguer station will remain closed for approximately one year due to separate accessibility enhancement projects. These works, funded by the Department of Territory with a budget of €8.6 million, began on 13 October and represent a comprehensive approach to metro system modernisation.
The current closure of Line 4 access at Passeig de Gràcia, which began on 29 September for a six-week period, similarly focuses on accessibility improvements through lift installation and lobby renovations. Therefore, passengers are advised to plan alternative routes and allow additional travel time during these essential upgrade works.
