Llum BCN 2026 festival transforms Barcelona into a sprawling open-air museum this weekend. From 6 to 8 February, the Festival of Light Arts illuminates the Catalan capital. Consequently, locals and visitors can explore the city through a new lens.

For three evenings, the streets of Poblenou and wider Barcelona host free-access installations. Under this year’s evocative theme, “Nocturnal Landscapes”, the festival offers a magical reinterpretation of urban architecture. Therefore, buildings and squares become stages for artistic experimentation.

Llum BCN 2026 Festival: A New Vision

Llum BCN has established itself as a European reference in light arts. The event fuses lighting technology with contemporary art, design, architecture, and digital arts. Moreover, it explores the expressive potential of urban spaces.

The 2026 programme is particularly ambitious. It features 12 installations by prestigious national and international professional artists. Additionally, 18 proposals come from Barcelona’s university schools of design, art, and architecture.

A significant innovation for this edition is the inclusion of ten hybrid installations. These combine light and dance. Distributed across all ten districts of the city, these site-specific works celebrate Barcelona’s status as the World Capital of Architecture 2026.

To assist visitors, organisers curated four colour-coded itineraries. Each offers a distinct focus:

  • Red Route: Features light installations by renowned professional artists.
  • Green Route: Showcases innovative proposals from university schools.
  • Yellow Route: Highlights installations driven by cultural facilities and enterprises.
  • Lilac Route: Presents special collaborations for Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture.

Llum BCN 2026 Festival Schedule and Access

Access to all festival spaces is completely free. The installations will be active during the following hours:

  • Friday 6 and Saturday 7 February: 19:00 to 00:00
  • Sunday 8 February: 19:00 to 23:00

Transport Recommendations for the Festival

Due to high turnout, the organisation strongly recommends public transport. Key options include:

  • Metro: L1 (Marina, Glòries), L2 (Monumental), and L4 (Llacuna, Bogatell, Poblenou).
  • Tram: Lines T4, T5, and T6 servicing Glòries and the surrounding area.
  • Bus: Lines including H12, H14, V23, V25, and V27 cover the area extensively.
  • Train (Rodalies): If operational, lines stopping at Arc de Triomf or Clot-Aragó offer convenient access.
