The upcoming 37th edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion is set to make waves, announcing that New York-based label Luar will make its debut on the Catalan catwalk. The brand, helmed by designer Raúl López, recently gained global attention for dressing pop superstar Lady Gaga for her surprise appearance at the Super Bowl. The four-day event, running from 14 to 17 April, will also unfold in a new, picturesque location: the Marina Vela in Barcelona’s Port Vell.

Luar’s inclusion marks a significant international coup for the event. Dominican-American designer Raúl López, a key figure in the Brooklyn fashion scene, has built a reputation for what he calls “accessible and inclusive” ready-to-wear that transcends gender and social class. His profile skyrocketed after Lady Gaga donned a custom baby blue, flamenco-inspired Luar dress for her performance alongside Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl halftime show.
A New Seaside Stage
This year’s event trades its previous locations for a platform right on the waterfront at Marina Vela Barcelona. Organisers hope the maritime backdrop of yachts, jetties, and restaurants will provide a “new dimension” to the shows, solidifying the event’s position as a leading fashion platform. The spring timing, with the sun warming the Mediterranean coast, is expected to complement the new open-air atmosphere.
The move coincides with a major boost in institutional support. Barcelona City Council, led by Mayor Jaume Collboni, has become a strategic partner. This partnership, announced last year and detailed in the city’s Strategic Fashion Plan for 2025-2030, includes a committed annual contribution of at least one million euros. The event, originally created by the Catalan Government through its Consortium of Commerce, Crafts and Fashion (CCAM), now sees all levels of local administration, including the Diputació de Barcelona, pulling in the same direction to promote the local fashion industry.
A Line-Up of Debuts and Returns
Luar is not the only high-profile name making its first appearance. Iconic Galician brand Adolfo Domínguez, famed for its “wrinkles are beautiful” philosophy since 1976, will be showing in Barcelona for the first time, moving its presentation from Madrid. It will be joined by the Basque sustainable fashion label SKFK, which has championed eco-conscious design since its inception as Skunk Funk in 1999.
The full programme features 26 brands, showcasing a mix of established and emerging talent. Palestinian-Jordanian label Nazzal Studio will also present its unique blend of apparel, performance, and material research. Local favourite Manuel Bolaño, who first gained acclaim as part of the Bressol project for emerging designers in 2008, is making a welcome return to the 080 runway. David Catalán, a Porto-based menswear designer with a growing international profile, will close the week’s shows. Established Barcelona names like Custo Barcelona, Escorpion, and Txell Miras are also on the schedule.
With a star international designer, a fresh seaside setting, and strengthened municipal backing, the 37th edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion is positioning itself as more than just a local showcase. It aims to be a key fixture on the European fashion calendar, blending global appeal with a strong commitment to its Catalan roots. As the city continues to foster innovation in the creative sectors, from high fashion to high tech, events like these underscore its growing influence, a trend also seen in recent projects like Barcelona’s anti-AI runway designed to thwart facial recognition.
