The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) launches a new high-performance bus service on 16 February. This new M15 Metrobus line will directly connect L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Cornellà de Llobregat with Barcelona’s Avinguda Diagonal. Consequently, it strengthens public transport links across the metropolitan region.

This strategic addition aims to relieve congestion on existing routes. Meanwhile, it offers a faster, more comfortable commute for residents in densely populated neighbourhoods.

M15 Metrobus Line Route and Key Connections

The M15 Metrobus line will operate along a key corridor. It links the Zona Universitària to the Illa Diagonal shopping centre. By extending into the metropolitan area, the line serves as a vital entry point to Barcelona for commuters.

In L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the route incorporates a section of the existing M12 line. Additionally, it adds new stops along the Avinguda del Torrent Gornal axis. This expansion significantly improves coverage for several neighbourhoods, including:

  • La Torrassa
  • Collblanc
  • La Florida
  • Pubilla Cases

Further west, the M15 Metrobus line extends into Cornellà de Llobregat. Therefore, it enhances access for the Almeda neighbourhood. It also provides direct connections to major leisure and commercial hubs. These include the Splau shopping centre and the RCD Espanyol stadium.

M15 Metrobus Line High Frequency to Relieve Congestion

The M15 Metrobus line is a high-frequency service for heavy demand. On weekdays, buses will run every 10 minutes. Service continues throughout the weekend. The AMB owns the line and entrusted its management to Moventis.

A primary objective is to decompress the M12 and M14 lines. Both currently experience very high passenger volumes. By absorbing some demand, the AMB hopes to improve travel comfort across the network.

Carlos Cordón, the AMB’s vice-president of mobility, emphasised expanding the network’s capacity. “With this new M15 Metrobus line, the AMB continues working to improve the metropolitan bus network,” he stated. “We must increase public transport capacity. Furthermore, we offer efficient, sustainable alternatives for daily commutes within the Barcelona metropolitan area.”

To ensure awareness, the AMB launches a joint visibility campaign with local councils this week.
