Òmnium Cultural, Plataforma per la Llengua, Accent Obert and Softcatalà have launched Configura.cat, encouraging Catalan speakers to set their devices to the language.
The initiative aims to help both native and new Catalan speakers live fully in their language, including within digital spaces. Furthermore, it sends a clear message to technology companies about user demand for Catalan options.
Catalan Digital Campaign Aims for Linguistic Normalisation
Campaign organisers have created a comprehensive website featuring step-by-step tutorials and video guides. These resources demonstrate how to configure smartphones, computers and tablets in Catalan.

Òmnium Cultural president Xavier Antich emphasised that Catalan speakers should navigate digital environments in their language without restrictions. He described the initiative as an example of digital normalisation for the language.
Platforma per la Llengua president Òscar Escuder highlighted the campaign’s importance during what he termed a “linguistic emergency.” The effort seeks to strengthen linguistic rights in increasingly digital daily life.
Meanwhile, Accent Obert president Genís Roca noted that while major platforms like Google and Apple offer Catalan options, many users haven’t activated them. Consequently, companies don’t perceive sufficient demand for Catalan digital services.
The campaign has attracted support from numerous organisations within the Alliance for Catalan Digital Presence. These include cultural institutes from Valencia and the Balearic Islands, alongside digital specialists.
Organisers ultimately want Catalan to become the primary language setting rather than just an additional option. This Catalan digital campaign represents a significant step toward full linguistic integration in technology.
