The festival, which runs from 1 to 26 October, aims to transform the city’s musical landscape by showcasing female talent across a wide range of styles. Organisers explained that the impromptu Metro gig, held in collaboration with Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), sought to ‘take music out of traditional venues and bring it directly to people in their daily lives’.

Throughout October, the Wimen Festival will host concerts, talks, training sessions and cultural activities in some of Barcelona’s most emblematic venues. With a strong focus on women-led projects, the event hopes to spotlight artists who are too often overlooked in the industry.

Mala Rodríguez, one of Spain’s most influential rap voices, set the tone for the programme with her underground Metro performance, drawing a crowd of stunned commuters who quickly turned into fans. The moment served both as a celebration of music in unexpected places and as a powerful statement about the visibility of female artists in a still male-dominated sector.

The debut edition of the festival promises an eclectic line-up that blends emerging voices with established names, underlining Barcelona’s reputation as a hub for cultural innovation.
