A man sustained serious injuries after being shot on a bar terrace in Barcelona's Sant Martí district on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 15:50 on Passeig del Taulat, near Diagonal Mar Park.
The victim was reportedly having a drink at a bar located at Passeig del Taulat, 279. This address is at the intersection with Carrer de la Selva de Mar. Local residents told the EFE agency that the man lives in the area and regularly frequents the establishment. Medical Emergency Services (SEM) treated the injured man at the scene before transferring him to Hospital del Mar. He remains hospitalised with a reserved prognosis.
Police Investigation Underway
Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, cordoned off the area to collect evidence and interview eyewitnesses. Scientific police teams were present, and bloodstains remained visible on the bar terrace two hours after the shooting.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the incident and identify the perpetrator. The Sant Martí district, home to over 240,000 residents, has seen previous firearm incidents, raising public safety concerns.
Recent Gun Incidents in Barcelona
This shooting marks another instance of gun violence in Barcelona. Betevé reported a serious injury from a shooting on 11 December 2025 on Carrer d'Espronceda, near Avinguda Meridiana. Just days before, on 29 August, a man was shot outside a bar on Rambla de Prim, also in Sant Martí.
Other incidents include Mossos d'Esquadra arresting five people on 11 August for a shooting in Sants-Montjuïc. On 2 August, a man sustained injuries in a shooting on Carrer del Comte d'Urgell in the Eixample district. Additionally, on 15 July, an assailant murdered an estimated 40-year-old man. The victim died from a gunshot to the head inside an Eixample building entrance.
Earlier that year, on 24 February, a person suffered serious stab wounds on Riera Blanca, bordering L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. Police arrested the attacker after a traffic accident. The most significant gun incident of the previous year occurred on 8 January in La Mina, Sant Adrià de Besòs. That incident involved over 40 detonations.
