Megadeth Barcelona Rock Fest: A final bow
Megadeth’s inclusion in the festival bill comes 43 years after the band was founded. As a member of the ‘Big Four’ of thrash metal alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, the group has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Their influence on the genre is defined by seminal records such as Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction.
Organisers state that the concert will feature a retrospective of the band’s greatest hits. In addition, the setlist will introduce material from their seventeenth studio album, which is due for release shortly. This new record serves as the final chapter in their discography. Meanwhile, the festival’s ability to secure such a major act is notable. This is especially true considering the financial challenges facing Barcelona festivals in the current climate.
Megadeth Barcelona Rock Fest lineup and details
The festival has secured a robust roster of international acts for the July event. Alongside Megadeth, the lineup features heavyweights such as Helloween, The Offspring, Twisted Sister, and Bad Religion. The bill also includes a special performance by the Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, as well as Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Consequently, music fans in the city will be pleased. This news comes on the heels of an announcement from another major Barcelona music festival.
Megadeth have also confirmed two special guests will accompany them for the show. However, these names remain unannounced at this stage.
Spanish farewell tour dates
Beyond the Barcelona date, the farewell tour includes several other stops across Spain in late May. The band will perform in Valencia on 26 May, followed by A Coruña on 27 May and Bilbao on 29 May.
