Tibidabo penthouse renovation has transformed a 190-square-metre apartment into a serene, light-filled home with panoramic Barcelona views.
The project, undertaken by the young architecture studio MH.AP for a playwright and a lawyer, prioritises open social spaces and a profound connection to the city’s landscape from its privileged position at the foot of the mountain.

Consequently, they reorganised the entire floor plan along a north-south axis. The private bedrooms and bathrooms now occupy the quieter eastern side, while the kitchen, dining, and living areas flow openly towards a generous western terrace.
“The clients asked us to focus attention on the living and meeting areas,” the architects explain. “This allowed us to explore a layout where private zones recede, freeing space for more open relationships between different parts of the home.” Therefore, the master bedroom features sliding wooden panels, creating a flexible unit that can connect to both the living room and the ensuite bathroom.
Furthermore, the design draws heavily from Mediterranean architecture, extending interior life outdoors. The kitchen and living room connect through a central outdoor space with floor-to-ceiling openings. To unify the atmosphere, the same warm-toned lime stucco and micro-mortar flooring is used both inside and out.
Material Palette and Connection to Barcelona’s Context
The material selection for the Tibidabo penthouse renovation is deliberately restrained yet rich. Oak wood, built-in furniture, Catalan ceramics, and stainless steel provide coherence. Moreover, these materials are used indiscriminately to dissolve boundaries, such as bringing exterior sun-control shutters inside the home.
A light colour palette of broken whites, creams, and beiges prevails, creating a soft, calm backdrop for the breathtaking views. On the terrace, a pergola shades an outdoor kitchen and an integrated dining table, making the visuals and connection to the exterior the project’s foundation. This focus on sustainable, context-driven design aligns with broader trends in the city, as seen in Barcelona’s recent climb in sustainable tourism rankings.
The architects describe the home as responding to a Mediterranean context. “It is contemporary in its monochromatic approach but classical in its forms,” they note. The final look resulted from a collaborative process with the clients, local artisans, and builder Iñaki, aiming to make everyone involved feel a sense of ownership.

By prioritising light, views, and flexible living, MH.AP has created a timeless sanctuary high above the city.
