The Montjuïc funicular will shut down for five months starting 20 October. Major works on the Vila i Vilà sewer in Poble Sec mean passengers can’t access the service safely, according to TMB.

A shuttle bus will replace the funicular throughout the closure. The works will severely impact mobility in Poble Sec and access to Montjuïc. Moreover, Carrer Nou de la Rambla will be closed at the junction with Carrer de Vila i Vilà.
What’s happening to the funicular
The closure affects the access corridor from Paral·lel metro station. Construction crews will demolish a section of the walkway connecting the L2 and L3 platforms to the funicular. They’ll also divert existing services, making passenger access impossible.
Workers will install a new sewer pipe during the closure. Once that’s done, they’ll rebuild the corridor and relocate services. The funicular typically carries over 3,000 journeys daily.
How the replacement bus works
TMB’s shuttle service will run up Avinguda Miramar and return via Avinguda de l’Estadi, Passeig de Santa Madrona, and Carrer de Lleida. The bus keeps the same hours as the funicular.
On weekdays, buses run 7:30am to 8pm. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, they operate 9am to 8pm. Weekday frequency is every 7-8 minutes (four buses) until 3pm, then every 10-12 minutes (three buses) until closing. Weekends see three buses running every 10-12 minutes.
Alternatively, regular bus line 150 runs between Plaça Espanya and Montjuïc Castle. It stops at Avinguda Miramar, near the funicular’s usual arrival point, from 7am to 9pm.
