Barcelona police recently arrested a man in Montjuïc suspected of repeatedly throwing stones at a Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) bus, injuring a tourist, and harassing local schoolchildren and parents. The arrest followed a joint operation by the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Guardia Urbana.

The suspect allegedly caused a tourist eye injury on 15 January 2026 when a stone shattered a Line 55 bus window. Emergency services transported the victim to a health centre.

Families from the Tres Pins school in Montjuïc first reported concerns in October 2025. They expressed “inquietud” (concern) about a man threatening parents and throwing stones at them while collecting their children.

Between late 2025 and early 2026, emergency services received seven calls about the suspect’s violent behaviour. He reportedly assaulted a mother who criticised his stone-throwing, leading to a police complaint.

Tourist Injured in Bus Attack

Police also received alerts about a violent man throwing stones at the TMB Line 55 bus and other vehicles in the area. This route serves the Montjuïc district, a significant area for tourism and home to several educational institutions.

In response, the Mossos and Guardia Urbana implemented a school protection device near Tres Pins school. They also “reforzaron la seguridad en el entorno escolar y dieron tranquilidad a las familias” (reinforced security in the school environment and provided peace of mind to families).

Officers conducted raids in the nearby mountainous terrain to locate the individual. Police sources stated that the school’s secretary confirmed in early 2026 that “la situación se mantenía estable y que la respuesta policial había sido rápida y coordinada” (the situation remained stable and the police response had been quick and coordinated).

School Community Targeted

The 15 January 2026 incident, involving the Line 55 bus, reactivated the police operation. Mossos intensified surveillance in Montjuïc with dynamic control points, maintaining a parallel device near the school.

Victim descriptions helped police identify the suspect. Authorities believe he is also responsible for harassing students and parents at the educational centre.

Police Operation and Arrest

Mossos d’Esquadra confirmed that no similar incidents have occurred since the arrest, suggesting the individual was the primary perpetrator. They stated, “Desde su detención no se ha registrado ningún nuevo incidente similar en la zona, lo que apunta a que esta persona habría sido la principal responsable de los hechos” (Since his arrest, no new similar incidents have been recorded in the area, which suggests this person was the main responsible party).

Ongoing Security Measures

Police services will maintain a preventive presence to ensure community safety. This ongoing device aims to guarantee the security and sense of tranquility for the educational community in Montjuïc.
