At the 10th edition of the Fòrum Edita, held at the UPF Barcelona School of Management, Jorge Corrales, director general of CEDRO (the Spanish Reproduction Rights Centre), raised alarm about the impact of generative artificial intelligence on authors’ rights.

Corrales stated that AI systems represent a form of digital looting of the sector’s content, leading to a dilution of market value, unfair competition, and a loss of innovation. He revealed that more than 41,000 authors in Spain have already been affected by unauthorised digital piracy linked to artificial intelligence.

This large-scale misuse of creative works highlights the growing conflict between technological development and intellectual property protection. According to CEDRO, urgent measures are needed to defend the rights of authors and to ensure the sustainability of the creative industries.
