The group faces charges of vehicle theft, receiving stolen goods, and belonging to a criminal organisation. According to the official Mossos d’Esquadra statement, the investigation was launched after a report of a motorcycle stolen in Barcelona being spotted in Manresa.

This crucial lead allowed police to identify a garage in the town that was housing several stolen motorcycles. Furthermore, the operation revealed a clear division of labour within the criminal network. Consequently, one part of the group specialised in committing the thefts, loading the bikes into a van and transporting them to the Manresa garage.

Another faction then focused on dismantling and packaging the parts for sale. Inside the garage, officers discovered two storage units. One unit was used for stripping the motorcycles down, while the other contained more than 60 packages with parts from six stolen bikes.

The crackdown highlights ongoing efforts to combat organised crime affecting transport and property in the region. This incident follows other recent security concerns in public spaces, such as the reported security crisis at Joan Miro Park. Additionally, the police action comes amid broader social challenges, including a declared social emergency over rising street homelessness in Barcelona.

The dismantled motorcycle theft ring operated with significant coordination, targeting the metropolitan area. Therefore, this successful police operation represents a significant blow to this particular organised crime activity. The Mossos have now secured the garage and its contents as evidence for the ongoing judicial process.
