Two officers from the Sant Martí station stand accused of planting a gun and cocaine in a stevedore’s car as retaliation for exposing drug trafficking operations at the city’s port. The prosecution is seeking nearly 19 years imprisonment for the suspended officers.
Mossos Officers Face Serious Corruption Allegations
According to La Vanguardia reports, the alleged evidence planting occurred in June 2016 at a Diagonal avenue gym car park. The officers reportedly coordinated with two additional defendants linked to the controversial Desokupa company to place a semi-automatic pistol, cocaine, hashish worth over €51,000, an axe and a knife in the victim’s vehicle.
The prosecution claims the officers then tipped off a narcotics colleague using an internal police nickname rather than the code name used by informants. This detail reportedly raised suspicions about the operation’s legitimacy. Furthermore, the accused officers had accessed the victim’s police file three months prior to the incident.
The case emerges amid broader security concerns in Barcelona, where authorities recently announced plans to install 1,000 CCTV cameras across the city. This trial therefore represents a significant test for police accountability and public trust.
Both officers face charges including public health offences, illegal weapons possession, unlawful detention and breach of confidentiality. Their alleged accomplices, an uncle and nephew connected to Desokupa, face 14-year sentences for their suspected roles in drug trafficking and robbery operations.
The victim, who testifies today, had previously accused another stevedore named David Caballero of running a criminal drug organisation at Barcelona port. Caballero was tragically shot dead while having breakfast at a Montgat terrace bar in November 2024.
