Mossos d’Esquadra have confiscated 10,207 knives in nine months under Plan Daga, which launched last September to prevent people carrying these weapons. That works out at 37 knives seized every single day. The government revealed the figures in response to a written parliamentary question from ERC.

Of the 10,207 interventions, 8,464 were for administrative infractions. Meanwhile, Mossos handled 3,550 knife-related incidents across Catalunya where weapons or dangerous objects were either displayed or used. The most common incident type was robbery with violence or intimidation (24%), and most happened in Barcelona (1,577 cases).

Beyond robberies, knife incidents included assaults between people (21%), threats or coercion (17%), people causing insecurity in public spaces (8%), fights in public spaces (8%) and problems with customers (2%). The geographic breakdown shows Barcelona with 1,577 incidents, followed by Metropolitan Region South (736), North (596), Girona (495), Camp de Tarragona (383), Central regions (245), Ponent (209), Terres de l’Ebre (67) and Western Pyrenees (26).

Between 1 September 2024 and 9 June 2025, police opened 6,397 files for possession and use of weapons and display of dangerous objects. Of these, 2,179 correspond to police reports filed from 18 September onwards. Authorities issued sanctions for 1,034 of these files, whilst some ended without resolution because people paid fines before the process finished.

As of 9 June 2025, 8,665 files remained to be completed. Interior councillor Núria Parlon’s response to ERC also specified that weapon-related infractions make up roughly 15% of all offences reported under the Citizen Security Protection Act.
