The operation, conducted on 20th October, resulted in four arrests and exposed a sophisticated criminal enterprise that had illegally tapped into high-voltage power lines.
Police investigators began surveillance days earlier following intelligence about a major cultivation site in the municipality. Consequently, they detected abnormal electricity consumption patterns that raised suspicions. Furthermore, officers obtained judicial authorisation to access the premises, where they made their startling discovery.
Mossos Uncover Sophisticated Cannabis Operation
Inside the 300-square-metre facility, officers found 5,140 cannabis plants at an advanced growth stage alongside a separate processing area for drying and packaging. The operation featured an elaborate ventilation system using specialised gases to accelerate plant growth and neutralise odours, clearly designed to avoid detection from neighbours and potential police inspections.

Additionally, investigators confirmed the entire facility was illegally connected to the electrical grid. Remarkably, the suspects had dug a 1.5-metre tunnel to access an underground high-voltage line, stealing electricity valued at over €194,000. This sophisticated setup represents one of the most complex illegal cultivation operations encountered by Catalan police in recent years.
Two suspects were arrested inside the warehouse during the raid, while two others were located hours later as alleged suppliers and logistics coordinators. All four men, aged between 27 and 30, now face multiple charges including crimes against public health, electricity fraud, belonging to a criminal organisation and document forgery.
The investigation continues under the supervision of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat’s duty court. This major bust follows recent police successes in tackling organised crime across the Barcelona metropolitan area. Meanwhile, the Mossos d’Esquadra have reinforced their commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating throughout Catalonia.
