RTVE’s new regional channel La 2 Catalunya (2Cat) launches Monday 13 October with the slogan ‘The one that speaks like you’, aiming to offer 60-70% Catalan language programming by the end of 2025. The channel will gradually introduce new content throughout November and December to reach that target, with further increases planned for 2026.

Channel director Oriol Nolis presented the programming lineup on Tuesday at RTVE’s Sant Cugat centre alongside RTVE president José Pablo López. The station will feature a morning slot combining news, opinion and entertainment with ‘Cafè d’idees’ presented by Gemma Nierga, followed by ‘El segon cafè’ with Cristina Villanueva and ‘L’Altaveu al pati’ with Marco Chiazza.
Afternoon programming kicks off with Jordi Hurtado’s veteran quiz show ‘Saber y ganar’, followed by the magazine show ‘L’Altaveu’ with Danae Boronat. The schedule also includes a Catalan version of ‘Aquí la terra’ with Jacob Petrus and ‘Cuina brutal’ cooking show with Chef Bosquet.
Prime time will showcase new programmes mixing culture, history and humour. ‘L’any que vas néixer’ with Xavier Bundó uses vintage NO-DO newsreel footage, whilst journalist Montse Soto hosts ‘Temps enrere’ exploring RTVE’s archives. Other shows include ‘Mamarazzis Pop&Cor’ with journalists Lorena Vázquez and Laura Fa covering celebrity news, and actress Candela Peña fronting unconventional interview show ‘Una tarda amb…’.
Future launches include Jordi Basté’s unedited 50-minute interview programme ‘Pla seqüència’, comedian Judit Martín’s ‘Tot això eren camps’, and a language quiz show presented by actor Peter Vives. Meanwhile, news coverage features ‘L’informatiu migdia’ with Aina Gandulf, also broadcast on La1, plus weekend bulletins with Laura Mesa and sports show ‘De cara a barraca’ with Marc Martín.
In a significant development, the channel will broadcast Spanish national football team matches with Catalan commentary for the first time in 27 years, featuring former footballer and coach Albert Ferrer. Nolis described the programming as ‘diverse, cross-cutting and plural’, designed to complement existing offerings and expand Catalan-language television audiences.
