This action forms part of a broader project promoting sustainable mobility in the Maresme corridor. The Directorate General for Climate Change and Environmental Quality drives this project. The Autoritat del Transport Metropolità de Barcelona (ATM) manages it. Its primary goal is to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the region. Officials presented the new sustainable mobility project to the media at Moventis’s depots in Mataró. Sílvia Paneque, Minister for Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, attended the event. David Bote, Mayor of Mataró, and Xesco Gomar, Mataró’s Mobility Councillor, were also present. Josep Maria Martí, President of Moventia, and Manuel Valdés, Director General of ATM, completed the official delegation.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
The C-10 line, operated by the company Casas, runs along the N-II road. It serves several municipalities, including Mataró, Cabrera de Mar, Vilassar de Mar, Premià de Mar, El Masnou, Montgat, Badalona, Sant Adrià del Besós, and Barcelona. This route is a vital transport link for thousands of residents commuting daily between the Maresme coast and the Catalan capital. The new electric bus will cover an average of 95,000 kilometres annually. This distance is equivalent to travelling more than twice around the world. It boasts a 450-kilometre range on a single charge. The bus also offers full accessibility for people with reduced mobility. Furthermore, it features the EyeShield system, an advanced collision prevention assistant. This system enhances safety with visual and audible alerts for pedestrians, cyclists, or obstacles near the vehicle.
Meeting Growing Demand
The C-10 line has experienced a significant increase in passenger numbers in recent years. This growth highlights the corridor’s importance and the clear need for service reinforcement. The new electric bus integrates into an existing service with extensive and consistent coverage. Frequencies adapt to different days of the week. On weekdays, buses depart Mataró every 45 minutes from 05:30 to 20:15. Departures from Barcelona run every 45 minutes from 07:00 to 21:45. Weekend services from Mataró operate every 90 minutes from 06:45 to 20:15 on Saturdays. On Sundays, they run every 90 minutes from 08:15 to 20:15. Barcelona departures are every 90 minutes from 08:15 to 21:45 on Saturdays and from 09:45 to 21:45 on Sundays.
This investment underscores Catalonia’s commitment to greener public transport solutions. The addition of this electric bus will contribute to a more sustainable and efficient transport network for the Maresme corridor. Officials expect further enhancements to public transport services across the region.
