This significant upgrade addresses longstanding mobility challenges for students and workers who previously faced limited transport options between the regions. The enhanced service launched on Monday 20th October following an agreement between TEISA and the Catalan Government’s Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition.
Barcelona Bus Service Expansion Details
The new Olot-Vic-Barcelona via Bracons route now offers eight daily journeys between 5:45am and 6:30pm. Consequently, travellers benefit from both earlier departures and later returns. The journey time has been reduced to just one hour and forty-five minutes, making it considerably faster than previous options.

Furthermore, the route features minimal stops for maximum efficiency. Departing from Olot’s bus station, it makes only one intermediate stop at the La Serra industrial estate in Sant Esteve d’en Bas before arriving at Barcelona’s Carrer Aragó. The return service operates between 11:45am and 8:45pm from Carrer Tarragona, with just two stops along Gran Via and the Sant Esteve d’en Bas industrial park.
Meanwhile, alternative routes continue operating for passengers requiring more stops. The Olot-Barcelona via Amer line maintains three daily departures with 14 intermediate stops, while the Olot-Barcelona via Banyoles route offers four journeys with 15 stops. These improvements reflect wider transport initiatives across the Barcelona region aimed at reducing congestion and improving connectivity.
Addressing Passenger Demand
The service expansion responds directly to passenger feedback and demonstrated need. TEISA recorded a 12% increase in passengers between 2023 and 2024, with an impressive 28.2% surge during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year. These statistics clearly indicated that existing services were insufficient for growing demand.
Additionally, the improvements tackle territorial inequalities in education and employment opportunities. Students from outlying regions often face difficult choices between expensive Barcelona accommodation or exhausting commutes. Similarly, workers previously risked declining job offers due to inadequate transport links. Therefore, this enhanced Barcelona bus service represents a crucial step toward regional equality.
The initiative reported by El Periódico demonstrates how public-private partnerships can deliver tangible benefits to communities. Moreover, it aligns with broader regional development strategies addressing housing and mobility challenges across Catalonia.
Ultimately, these Barcelona bus service enhancements provide vital infrastructure supporting education, employment and regional connectivity. The doubled frequency and reduced journey times mark significant progress in making Barcelona more accessible for residents across the wider Catalonia region.
