Telecommunications provider Orange has secured a prime retail location in the heart of Barcelona. The company confirms plans to move its flagship store to Portal de l’Àngel. This strategic relocation to the former Vodafone premises at number 36 marks a significant shift in the city’s commercial landscape.
According to reports from Metrópoli, the move involves closing Orange’s current central store in Plaça de Catalunya. Therefore, this relocation optimises the company’s commercial network by securing a position on one of Spain’s most trafficked shopping streets.

Orange Portal de l’Àngel: A Strategic Move to Premium Premises
The new Orange Portal de l’Àngel establishment spans 300 square metres over two floors. While an official opening date remains unconfirmed, sources indicate the transition will occur shortly after the Plaça de Catalunya location closes. This timing ensures minimal disruption to services.
Orange aims to replicate the full service offering of its previous location. Consequently, the company projects the new site as its most emblematic store in the city. The Orange Portal de l’Àngel premises represent a qualitative leap, placing the brand in a high-visibility area connecting the cathedral with Plaça de Catalunya.
Revitalising Portal de l’Àngel with the Orange Relocation
The arrival of Orange signals renewed activity for Portal de l’Àngel. This street has historically competed for the title of Spain’s most expensive retail destination. Following a post-pandemic dip, the area has seen a strong recovery. In addition, rental prices in 2024 now approach the record highs set in 2019.
Real estate consultancy Savills describes the current tenant rotation as a ‘historic moment’ for the area’s commercial mix. Meanwhile, the location remains highly coveted due to its intense pedestrian traffic. It serves as a key artery for both locals and tourists.
Vodafone’s Departure from Portal de l’Àngel
The premises at number 36 became available after Vodafone’s departure in November. Vodafone had occupied the site since late 2014, operating there for over a decade. Its closure formed part of its own strategic adjustments. For a brief period, Telefónica remained the sole major telecommunications operator on the street. However, this dynamic will change with Orange’s imminent arrival at Portal de l’Àngel.
